Application photos
A good application photo should look professional. Above all, however, the person in it should still be recognizable.
A strong first impression opens doors.
An application photo is often one of the first personal impressions a future employer gets of you.
Today, this applies not only to classic application documents. Your profile picture on LinkedIn or other professional platforms can also be seen before someone reads your actual application.
That is why I do not photograph according to a fixed scheme that looks the same for every industry and every person.
First, we consider:
What are you applying for? An apprenticeship, a degree program, your first career entry, or a new professional position?
In what environment would you like to work in the future and how would you like to be perceived there?
This determines the photographic direction.
Application photos for vocational training, university studies, and career entry
Graduating from school, starting your first apprenticeship, beginning a dual study program, or entering the professional world are often the start of a completely new chapter.
Especially with the first professional application photo, there is often uncertainty: What should I wear? How do I want to come across? How professional does an application photo need to look without suddenly not looking like me anymore?
That is exactly what we will find out together.
A young person does not need to play a role for a professional application photo, nor do they need to appear older than they are.
What is crucial is that the image fits the person and the next step.
Natural and authentic, yet clear, confident, and professional.
I assist with the selection of clothing, provide guidance during the shoot, and work together with the person in front of my camera to develop an image style that fits the targeted apprenticeship, degree program, or career entry.
Professional does not mean interchangeable
Confident. Competent. Open. Approachable. Strong leadership.
Which effect is appropriate depends on you and your professional goal.
An application photo for a leadership position may have a different effect than the image of a career starter. An application in a conservative corporate environment places different demands on the visual language than a position in a creative company.
Nevertheless, the result should not look as if you have taken on a foreign role for your application.
A convincing application photo shows a professional side of you without letting your personality disappear behind it.
Application photo, LinkedIn and professional profiles
A professional portrait is often needed for more than one purpose today.
In addition to classic application documents, the images can be used for LinkedIn and other professional online profiles, for example.
We already take this into account during the photo shoot.
Depending on your needs, different image variants and crops can be created. The shots should go well together, but they do not all have to look identical.
This way, you receive images that can be used for various professional situations.
You do not need to know how to stand in front of the camera
That is my job.
I will give you clear guidance and show you different options for posture, gaze, and expression.
There is no single pose that is right for everyone.
Some people feel confident facing the camera directly, others slightly turned. Some appear particularly confident in a calmer pose, others need a bit more dynamism.
My experience helps me to quickly recognize which direction suits you while simultaneously supporting the desired professional impact.
Good application photos do not have to take long
I have been a trained photographer since 2005.
Thanks to my many years of experience, I can use light, perspective, and image effect in a very targeted way and guide people clearly through a shoot.
This makes an application photo session efficient.
You do not have to spend a long time trying out different poses or waiting for the right picture to happen by chance.
Especially if you are taking the appointment during your lunch break or between other professional commitments, this is an advantage.
For me, efficiency does not mean photographing people quickly. It means recognizing what works faster through experience.
And if you need a little longer to feel comfortable in front of the camera, we will take that time.
What should you bring to your application photo session?
Clothing significantly influences the impact of an application photo.
One question often helps with the selection:
Imagine you had a job interview at your absolute dream company tomorrow. What would you wear?
Feel free to bring two or three options. Together we will see what suits you, your industry, and the desired position.
What is crucial is not just whether something is formally "correct." You should feel confident and natural in it.
